A BOOKKEEPER'S LAMENT

A BOOKKEEPER'S LAMENT
by Mug
Numbers, numbers everywhere
And not a word they speak.
Numbers, numbers everywhere...
Much havoc do they wreak.
Twirling numbers fill the air;
They bounce and swirl and sway...
They jump around before my eyes...
To them it's all 'child's play'.
I try to grasp them in my hands;
I try to hold them down.
But they continue frolicking...
And I just stand and frown.

PIECES OF A WEEKEND IN GREENVILLE - Part I

When we arrived Friday evening, the streets right outside our hotel were blocked off for Greenville's weekly Friday night "Block Party"...
This was such a neat experience for us "country folk"...to just step right out our backdoor, so to speak, and meander the streetscapes;)

...When, lo and behold, whom should we meet....but Cug and Slug!
(Our daughter, who also happens to be Scattering Lupines, and son-in-law...in the "Ug language he is our sug-in-lug (Slug for short).
And WE are his ...yep!...pugs-in-lug (or Plugs for short;)

The next morning the "Block Party" was gone....but a little further down, the streets had been blocked off again for the Saturday Morning Farmers' Market!

...And what is a farmers market without a.....jazz/blues player!
Delightful!

...and, of course, ears of corn!

Baskets of peaches!

Organic lye soap...I bought the lemon verbena and oatmeal soap and some peppermint lip balm;)

This young man sipping furiously on an organic slushy. If I had not just eaten breakfast, I would have gotten one of these myself!

Cug and Slug live here in this delightful 1950's/1960's house....I really wish I had taken photos of the rooms inside, too.....Full of peaceful joy...

...And lovely arrangements of pretty things...

...such as food on pretty plates....

More to come later this week.....
Have a lovely day!

COMING SOON....SNAPSHOTS OF OUR WEEKEND

You would have been viewing pictures and comments from our weekend in Greenville with Cug and Slug by now.....but apparently, I am having technical difficulties...Aaarghh!
I spent hours today downloading photos and "designing" my post...all to no avail...It appears that my HTML doesn't match something...?
I wonder if this will post?

BE OF GOOD CHEER

Funny how things work together, is it not?
Earlier this week my post was about the text for our sermon on Sunday (Acts 27). For some reason it really stayed with me.....Well, read my this morning's devotion from Streams in the Desert by L. B. Cowman.....
"There are degrees to faith....
....The first phase believes when there are favorable emotions, the second believes when there is the absence of feeling, but this third form of faith believes God and His Word when circumstances, emotions, appearances, people, and human reason all urge to the contrary.
Paul exercised this faith in Acts 27: v.20 & 25:
And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away. (v. 20)
Not withstanding all this Paul said,
Wherefore, Sirs, be of good cheer; for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told to me. (v. 25)
May God give us faith to fully trust His Word though everything witness the other way." -C.H.P. (from Streams in the Desert, July 21)

Be of good cheer...

SUMMERTIME COOKOUTS and RAINBOW JELLO

Ahhh.....Sunflowers (arranged in a 5-gallon bucket once used for tractor transmission fluid), red-checkered tablecloths, fresh out-of-the-garden vegetables.......SUMMERTIME!

The theme continues.....

Comraderie.....friendship....no age barriers...

Young and Old...

The matriarchs of the church...(Two very special ladies...the one on your right celebrated her 90th birthday not too long ago)...

Ahhhh....YUM!

A satisfied silence hovered for a few seconds as food met taste buds....

Rainbow Jello made by the young lad front and center in one of the photos above. His mother told me it took 6 hours to make as they had to wait for each layer to jell before they could add the next...the lighter layers have sour cream mixed in to give it a pastel effect...

Perfect ending to a delightful Sunday Dinner on the Grounds deep in the Alabama countryside.
Have a lovely day!

COMING IN ON BROKEN PIECES

Our sermon this Sunday centered around the following scripture:
Acts 27: 1-44
..."some on planks, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it was that all were brought safely to shore." (v. 44)
There were, according to Paul's account, 276 men on board this ship counting the centurion and his soldiers, the captain and crew, and Paul and the other prisoners. Some bad decisions had been made as to the timing, et cetera, of the trip which, when coupled with the storms that continued for days on end, made it look less and less likely that any of them would survive.
The ship was destroyed, but all 276 men were brought safely to shore..."...coming in on broken pieces..."
Is that not how it is with us.....in our "storms of life"? We can't give up...God in his infinite wisdom will bring us safely to shore....maybe on broken pieces or rough boards, but He "knows the plans He has for us...plans for a future and a hope".
Have a lovely day!

GOD KNOWS...

This is my first post since October 2009......I'm not really sure why....Did "life" get in the way, or have I just been lazy? I probably should be ashamed......Hmmmm... Or should I?
I'm not even sure what to write about or even why I'm "coming back" to blogland...although I have missed the "friends" I was beginning to make....
Let's see....Hmmm....What to write about.....Well....
I've changed my profile a tad to better "fit" some of the changes in my life since last we "spoke"....
After many, many years of teaching a myriad of subjects and ages, I have resigned from teaching to work with my husband in his construction company, CAM Builders, LLC http://cambuildersllc.com
WAS THIS A WISE MOVE? ...
...We shall see......but ONE thing is for sure...
God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent....
HE IS IN CONTROL and does, indeed, KNOW!
HOW WONDERFUL IS THAT!
