I walked a mile with Pleasure,
She chattered all the way;
But left me none the wiser
For all she had to say.
I walked a mile with Sorrow,
And ne'er a word said she;
But, oh, the things I learned from her
When Sorrow walked with me.

Dr. Vincent tells of being in a great hothouse where luscious clusters of grapes were hanging on every side. The owner said, "When my new gardener came, he said he would have nothing to do with these unless he could cut them clean down to the stalk; and he did, and we had no more grapes for two years...., but this is the result."

Grandmommy's Quilts

I found these in a cute 60's style cedar chest that belonged to my in-laws. I recognize some of this material from placemats, stool covers, and napkins that my mother-in-law apparently made.
The pieces on these quilts look like they were hand-sewn.
Such treasures.....now if I can just make myself sit down and mend the few pieces that are beginning to unravel....and put a backing on each quilt, each of my children will have a wonderful keepsake to pass on to their children:)

This one is my personal favorite.
I think I will try to find the same shade of blue to back it with.

Our neighbor

(in Hatchechubbee the term 'neighbor' means anyone within 5 miles since our nearest neighbor is probably a mile away from our house)

brought us these cayenne peppers straight from his garden.

Aren't they beautiful?! He suggested stringing them with fishing line and hanging them around the kitchen to dry. Then, he said, next time I make chili I can just reach up and break half of one off to crumble into the chili.

He also brought us these sweet red and green peppers.
At his suggestion, I sauteed a batch in olive oil, butter, and garlic salt for supper tonight.
Yum!

I arrived at the annual Junior League Attic Sale thirty minutes before closing...

I figured all the "good stuff" would be gone.

However...everything left was now 1/2 off!

So...I bought this...

for $5.00.
...And this...

for $4.00!

And then someone handed me this bag....

...and said it was a $5.00 bag...for whatever I could fit into it!

...and this is what I fit into "the bag"....

What fun!

You might be a redneck.....

If you still have a Christmas reindeer in your yard in September:)
...But what about sleeping fawns in the underbrush next to your pond?

His name is Bull....

For some reason, I just LoVe this painting!
Hubby and I purchased it several years ago at the weekly Friday night auction at the Possum Trot in Seale, Alabama, for $10.00.
It measures 20 x 24 inches and hangs in a place of honor in the guest half-bath in our home....
Sad to say, no one else in my family seems to share my delight in this piece of art:(
